Chicago Black Hawks vs. San Jose Sharks (10:00 pm ET, Versus)
By admin | May 18, 2010
San Jose Sharks would like to level the 7 game series against Chicago Black Hawks on Tuesday, in Game 2 (10:00pm ET, Versus), at HP Pavilion, San Jose, California. Hawks leads the series 1-0.
Before beating the San Jose Sharks on Sunday, the Blackhawks was 0-4 in its last four Game 1s. Heading into Game 2, Blackhawks find themselves in a rare position and will definitely look for a 2-0 series lead. Game 1 was the Antti Niemi show. As Blackhawks won their first Game 1 of this postseason, his career-best 44 saves made the difference. During Game 1, against the Sharks’ top line, the Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville used all four of his lines. Patrick Kane has points in 11 of his 13 postseason games and 1 goal and 6 assists in his last five games. He has been impressive for the Hawks.
“It’s a different situation than we’ve been in most of the time; I don’t think it changes much. It is not going to make the series any easier being up 1-0. If anything, it will just get more difficult as we go on. It’s a great opportunity to try to take both games in their building and that’s what we’ll try to do,” said forward Patrick Sharp said.
The Sharks outshot the Chicago Blackhawks 45-40, drew five power plays to none for Chicago and controlled the play for long stretches of the game.
The biggest difference was the play of Niemi, who allowed only a first-period power play goal on a deflected shot against a team with many high-powered offensive players. The number of chances they were able to generate will certainly give the Sharks confidence. In the game, Devin Setoguchi, Clowe and Joe Pavelski combining made 17 shots in the game but failed to mange a single goal. In the third period, Dany Heatley and Patrick Marleau were unable to finish even though both had good chances in the slot. In Game 1, with his power-play assist, key player for Sharks, Marleau in his last five games has 2 goals, 3 assists.
