Montreal Canadiens vs. Philadelphia Flyers – Game 5 – Match Review

Philadelphia Flyers have won the Game 5 against the Montreal Canadiens even though they had sealed of the series prior to the game on Monday. Flyers sealed the series handsomely by 4-1. In Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Flyers beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 on Monday night.

In the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in 13 years, the Flyers have rekindled some of their old championship days. In Game 1 on Saturday, the Flyers will play the Western Conference champion Chicago Blackhawks. This win against the Canadiens will surely do lot of good to the team’s confidence.

“This is one of the most, maybe the most exciting season ever since the first Stanley Cup, what these guys have done, what they’ve been through, I mean it’s incredible ” said team chairman and founder Ed Snider.

A goal 59 seconds into the game by Michael Leighton shut down the Canadiens even though they were resilient in the first two rounds. Into the third period, the Philadelphia Flyers took a 3-1 lead, leaving the final 20 minutes as one raucous coronation party. To fight back on guts alone is a difficult task but this year Flyers have shown an awesome ability to fight back.

“We kept going and didn’t quit. Down 0-3, we didn’t quit. All year that has been our motto. It feels good especially for the fans, it’s been great so far. It’s been great along the way. The journey hasn’t ended. Hopefully we have a Cinderella story in the end, but we need to prepare for Chicago ” said Mike Richards.

6:53 into the third, Scott Gomez scored and gave Montreal a sliver of hope.

“It was just one of those series. No one is going to run out of gas, You’re playing for the ultimate prize. You get to the ultimate prize, you’re going. You never use that as an excuse. The Flyers played a great series. They got us “, said Gomez.
