In Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, New Jersey Devils clash against New York Rangers on Wed, May 16 8:00 PM ET at Madison Square Garden, New York, NY. The Rangers have won the first game and they are leading in the best of seven series by 1-0. During these playoffs, the Rangers are looking to secure their first two-game lead in a series. The best betting odds for Devils (15/13), while for Rangers (10/13).

The Rangers won Game 1 but lost Game 2 and eventually had to go to seven games before winning in the first two rounds. Meanwhile, before winning four straight to reach the conference finals, the Devils dropped Game 1 against the Philadelphia Flyers last round. During the first two periods of Game 1, they appeared to be on the ropes and perhaps even a little tired. Into the third period, Dan Girardi broke a scoreless tie 53 seconds. Power-play goal was added by Chris Kreider and Artem Anisimov scored into an empty-net to seal it. Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto in his last four games has a goal and three assists.

For the Devils, being down in a series is nothing. Against the Flyers, not only did they rally back, they were 2-1 and 3-2 in the first round against the Florida Panthers. The Devils were a bounce or two away during the second period from scoring a couple of goals, despite the 3-0 loss in Game 1. The Devils were not blanked for a lack of chances, although the Rangers opened the floodgates early in the third period. The Rangers blocked 26 shots and forced the Devils to miss the net 15 times, while Henrik Lundqvist made 21 saves.

Mats Zuccarello (broken wrist) and Brandon Dubinsky (lower body) will remain out for the Rangers. For the Devils, Henrik Tallinder (leg) and Jacob Josefson (wrist) are out, even though they skated. In a best-of-seven series, a team that holds a 2-0 lead and it has won 86 percent of the time. In conference finals, a team that grabs that edge has won 91 percent of the time. On Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, Devils captain Zach Parise said that he is an MVP candidate for a reason and if he sees it, he is going to stop it. He added that the Devils team has to make it a little harder for Lundqvist.

The New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers clash at the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7:30 PM ET, May 1, 2012) in Game 2 of the seven game series. Philadelphia leads the series by 1-0. The best betting odds for the Devils, while for Flyers

The Devils have committed 40 penalties and it is the most among teams remaining in the playoffs. That includes six minor penalties in Game 1 against the Philadelphia Flyers in their conference semifinal series.

Coach Peter Laviolette said that in the first period of Game 1, the rust his team showed was a worthy trade-off for the opportunity to get a couple players rested and healthy. Among them was defenseman Nicklas Grossmann. In Game 4 of the first round against the Pittsburgh Penguins, he sustained an upper-body injury one teammate called a concussion and sat out Games 5 and 6. He spent the week off getting his conditioning level back and getting healthy to where it needed to be.

In Game 1 of the series, Devils captain Zach Parise had a goal and an assist. In seven playoff games, Flyers center Danny Briere had his third two-goal game. In 70 regular-season contests, he had four two-goal games.

In six seasons, Briere has 36 playoff goals since leaving the Buffalo Sabres for the Philadelphia Flyers. The Sabres as a team have just 33 playoff goals in that same span. Van Riemsdyk was never much a fan of the Devils or Flyers. He made his NHL debut in 2009 and he was drafted behind fellow American Patrick Kane. That season, in the Stanley Cup finals, the Flyers lost to Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Flyers’ chances of returning to the finals improved, with van Riemsdyk back. First, they have to win this round. Coming back from a 3-2 deficit against Florida with consecutive overtime wins to advance, the Devils have shown they can rally in a series.

Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros (back) is out. Devils center Jacob Josefson (wrist) and defenseman Henrik Tallinder (blood clots) is out.

Phoenix Coyotes meet Chicago Blackhawks at United Center, Chicago, Illinois (8:00 PM ET, April 19, 2012) for Game 4. The Coyotes leads the seven game series by 2-1. On Wednesday for knocking Chicago’s Marian Hossa out of the game, the NHL suspended Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres indefinitely. The best betting odds for the game has Coyotes (10/7), while Blackhawks (8/13).

On Thursday, Hossa will not play in Game 4 with the Coyotes leading the series 2-1. Less than 24 hours after he was carried off the ice on a stretcher and taken to a hospital, he was at home resting, exchanging texts with his Blackhawks teammates. In a first round, the hard knock by Torres was the latest and that has been dominated by brawls and violent hits. The NHL is scheduled a Friday hearing in New York for a player who has repute for big hits.

In the first period, Torres’ skates were off the ice as he hit Hossa and sent Chicago’s regular-season points leader crashing to the ice. When Hossa was hit, he had just passed the puck. Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said there was little change in Hossa’s condition without being specific. He reiterated that the hit on Hossa was brutal. He was definitely out for Thursday’s game. On Tuesday night, Hossa went to a hospital for tests before he was taken home. A team doctor said that there is no timetable, although he said that a full recovery is expected.

In Game 2, the Coyotes were unhappy when Chicago rookie Andrew Shaw collided with goalie Mike Smith behind the net and knocked him to the ice. Shaw got a game misconduct and Smith was able to stay in the game. He was suspended for three games. In front of the benches, Torres was not penalized for his hit on Hossa right.

On Tuesday night before a 65-second span of 4-on-4 that led to three goals, the Blackhawks took the first lead in all three games and were up 1-0 midway. Quenneville said the Blackhawks were still angry and hoped to channel that into a better performance Thursday.

According to the league, Wednesday was the day planned for the hearing but moved to Friday at the request of Torres and the players’ union.

Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens meet at the Bell Centre on Wed, Apr 4 7:30 PM ET. The two Eastern Conference teams will ultimately play out the remainder of their respective seasons. This is the fourth game of the series and it is their final meeting this season. The Lightning has won two of the previous three, including their last matchup Feb. 28 in Tampa Bay. The Lightning have a 37-35-7, 81pts record while Montreal are 29-35-15, 73pts.

The eyes of the hockey world will be placed firmly on Steven Stamkos, with three games remaining for both teams. Stamkos is two goals away from 60 for the season, which is an impressive accomplishment.

The Lightning have been playing spoiler in the final stretch of the 2011-12 campaign, after a 1-2-0 road trip to finish March basically ended Tampa Bay’s hopes for another postseason run. Stamkos scored the overtime winner against Winnipeg, severely handicapping the Jets’ chances at a postseason berth on Saturday night.

Tampa Bay fell behind 1-0 in the second period on an Alex Semin goal in a back-and-forth affair against the Capitals on Monday. The Lightning was in the lead after goals from Teddy Purcell and Victor Hedman just 25 seconds apart. The game seemed destined for extra time when Jason Chimera cemented his first-ever 20-goal season with just 3:17 to play.

However, for the second game in a row, Stamkos gave Tampa Bay the lead with only 1:03 remaining in regulation. He was the one who provided the late-game heroics. He gave the Bolts a big regulation win and sealed the deal with an empty-netter.

It marked an early start to what will be a long and interesting offseason in Montreal, when owner Geoff Molson announced the firing of Habs general manager Pierre Gauthier last week. The Canadiens embarked on a modest two-game road swing to finish off March, following Gauthier’s firing. On Friday night, it started with a humbling 4-1 loss to the Rangers in New York.

They could have put up an improved effort against Washington after the Rangers loss. Montreal fought back to even the score in the second period thanks to goals from Erik Cole and Tomas Plekanec, despite falling behind 2-0 to a Capitals team looking to make a mad dash toward the postseason.

Ryan Shannon (shoulder), Mathieu Garon (lower body), and Adam Hall (upper body) are out, while the Lightning have Marc-Andre Bergeron (back surgery), Mattias Ohlund (knees), and Dana Tyrell (knee surgery) on IR. For Montreal, on IR are Brian Gionta (bicep surgery), Yannick Weber (lower body), Raphael Diaz (lower body), Tomas Kaberle (upper body), and Scott Gomez (concussion), while Carey Price is out for Wednesday.

The NHL betting odds as per various sportsbook have Tampa Bay Lightning (42/41) and Montreal Canadiens (7/17).

Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres clash in the sixth and final meeting between these Northeast Division rivals at First Niagara Center. The Toronto have (34-36-9, 77pts) while Buffalo are (38-31-10, 86pts). In Toronto, the conclusion of a home-and-home began Saturday. The betting odds for the Game have Toronto Maple Leafs (2) and Buffalo Sabres (5/12).

If the Sabres can’t come up with two points against the Maple Leafs then it’s likely this will be their last game at First Niagara Center until the fall, although games in Philadelphia on Thursday and Boston on Saturday still remain on Buffalo’s schedule after Tuesday.

The opportunity still exists for Toronto by winning its final three games against Montreal, Buffalo and Tampa Bay. Toronto will miss the playoffs for a seventh consecutive season to finish with a better than .500 points percentage. With Joey Crabb’s shorthanded goal and Phil Kessel’s power-play strike sparking the effort Saturday, the Maple Leafs can also finish what they started on home ice against the Sabres. Rookie Ben Scrivens stopped 29 shots for the victory, in his first NHL appearance since Nov. 20.

Buffalo went from looking dominant during a win in Washington that allowed the Sabres to take over eighth in the Eastern Conference to dropping consecutive games against the Penguins and Maple Leafs to fall back into ninth while the Capitals subsequently went on a win streak in a matter of days. They were forced to play without standout defenseman Tyler Myers after he suffered a foot injury against Pittsburgh. Ryan Miller did not play his best game, although he stopped 25 shots.

In the last five games for the Maple Leafs, Crabb has 2 goals and 4 assists. Drew Stafford, in his last 10 games for the Sabres has 7 goals and 9 assists. Tyler Ennis, in his last 11 games has 7 goals and 10 assists.

In the Toronto squad, Jonas Gustavsson (lower body) and James Reimer (upper body) are ailing therefore; expect Scrivens figures to get the call again Tuesday. Forwards David Steckel (lower body) and Mikhail Grabovski (leg) are day-to-day, while forwards Joffrey Lupul (shoulder) and Nikolai Kulemin (finger) are sidelined.

Defenseman Christian Ehrhoff (knee) and forward Matt Ellis (knee) are out indefinitely, while fellow defenseman Mike Weber (upper body) and forward Nathan Gerbe (upper body) are all day-to-day for Buffalo.

Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek each have 6 points to pace the Sabres, while Crabb leads Maple Leafs scorers in the series with 6 points. Posting 3.04 goals-against average and .898 save percentage, Miller has played every minute in the five previous games.

Montreal Canadiens will be locking horns against Buffalo Sabres at First Niagara Center, Buffalo, New York in the Game 6 (7:00 PM ET, March 21, 2012). The NHL betting odds have Montreal Canadiens (6/4) and Buffalo Sabres (8/13). Buffalo have won four of the season’s five meetings with the Canadiens. They lost just one game in the series and this seems to have fired them up.

When the surging Sabres host the Canadiens in the final meeting between these Northeast Division rivals on Wednesday night, they look to pull into a tie for points with the Eastern Conference’s eighth-place team.

Buffalo is looking to continue its unlikely march toward the postseason, while Montreal is hoping to climb out of the Eastern Conference basement. Going 3-0-3 in the last six, the Canadiens have not lost in regulation in two weeks, but it is the Sabres whose play has been giving their fans fits.

Buffalo (34-29-10) faced a fourth straight defeat in a 4-3 shootout to Montreal at home Feb. 17. They were nine points out of a playoff spot, as they dropped it into a tie for last place in the East. It was utter embarrassment and disappointment for Coach Lindy Ruff. To move within two points of eighth-place Washington, the Sabres have responded by going 10-2-3. Washington has played one fewer game than Buffalo and will hit the ice on Thursday.

After Monday’s 7-3 win over Tampa Bay, forward Jason Pominville said that it is fun to get closer to where they are aiming. He added that they are slowly getting where they intend to and will try to keep climbing.

For Montreal, Erik Cole has 5 points in his last five games and Subban seems to be in good touch with 9 points in his last nine games. Tyler Ennis has 4 goals and 5 assists in his current five-game point streak for the Sabres. Foligno has 5 goals and 2 assists in five games.

Tomas Kaberle (upper body) and Scott Gomez (concussion) are questionable, while Raphael Diaz (lower body), Brian Gionta (bicep surgery) and Travis Moen (upper body) are on IR for the Habs. In the Sabres squad, Nathan Gerbe is questionable, Matt Ellis (knee) is out and Jochen Hecht (concussion) is on IR.

The Eastern Conference is always a close battle between the top teams but some of the perennial contenders are struggling to get to the top of their divisions.

The Washington Capitals opened the season as the 10-1 second favorite to win the Stanley Cup but they currently sit second in their division between a surprising Florida Panthers team. The Capitals odds have actually gone down since opening day and their current odds are 6-1.

The Panthers started the season as a long shot at 125-1 and despite leading their division their odds remain unchanged. The Panthers may be leading the division but their record places them as the 12th to 13th best team in the NHL and fifth best in the Eastern Conference at the moment.

The Buffalo Sabres are one of the biggest movers in the futures department. The Sabres opened up the season as a 30-1 shot to win the Stanley Cup and now they rate as a 10-1 shot to hoist the Cup this season. The Sabres are not in the NHL playoffs at the moment but there is plenty of action on the team early.

The New York Rangers lead the Eastern Conference in points but they are getting no respect from the books. The Rangers opened up as a 30-1 long shot and they remain 30-1 early in the season. Pessimism runs rampant in New York City.

The Ottawa Senators odds have skyrocketed since the season began. Ottawa opened as a healthy 65-1 shot to capture the Cup and they have risen to 150-1. Another odds move that makes little sense.

Many expected the Western Conference in the NHL would be the toughest conference and the records of the best teams are bearing this out.

The top team in the Western Conference is the Chicago Blackhawks with 25 points and after them the field bunches up tightly.

The surprising Minnesota Wild, double-digit underdogs to win the conference, are leading their division with 23 points over another long shot team in the Edmonton Oilers that has 20 points. Both teams are doing well despite having the defending conference champs, the Vancouver Canucks on their heels. Many anticipated the Canucks having a Stanley Cup runner-up hangover but they are in the mix.

The Dallas Stars are another division leader that can run away with the Pacific division. They have 22 points in the tightest division on the board. The Phoenix Coyotes trail the Stars by one and the San Jose Sharks and the Los Angeles Kings are nipping at their heels with 19 points.

The Western Conference was home to the best teams last year but the Boston Bruins brought the Stanley Cup home despite not being the best team in the tournament.

The Kings are a disappointment after a quick start. Many expected the Kings to dominate the Pacific as a 12-1 shot to win the conference and now they have some work to do to get back on top of Dallas.

The Anaheim Ducks demise has been swift but not completely unexpected. The team is aging by the day and they will need to reload by the middle of the season to give some young up and comers a good look.

For the Canucks, Raffi Torres ended an ugly Stanley Cup finals opener with a dramatic flash of beauty. He scored on an exceptional pass from Jannik Hansen with 18.5 seconds to play. At Rogers Arena, his third goal of the playoffs brought a tremendous roar from the crowd.

Roberto Luongo, Canuck goaltender, opened a series with a shutout for the third time these playoffs as he made 36 saves. With 33 saves, Thomas ended the night.

Even though on Wednesday night the Vancouver Canucks take up the challenge in game one of the finals against the Boston Bruins, it has been almost two decades since the Stanley Cup has been won by a Canadian team.

Before failing to convert a two man advantage for 1:32 early in the second period, Boston got nine shots without a goal during an early four minute power play against Vancouver. In the opener of his attempt to win the Stanley Cup on the same ice where he backstopped Canada to the gold medal in last year’s Olympics, Luongo was outstanding. In the third period, the Canucks started to turn the game in their favor.

By setting franchise records with 54 wins and 117 points while winning the Presidents’ Trophy, Vancouver was the NHL’s best team in the regular season. Before outlasting the Lightning to reach its first Stanley Cup finals since 1990, Boston finished third in the East and survived a nail-biting first-round series with Montreal. According to various online sportsbook, the Vancouver Canucks are favorites (1.20) to win 2011 Stanley Cup.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Boston Bruins will play this weekend for the second game of their best of 7 games series. The game will be played in Boston.

Boston is a -150 favorite and the total is 5.5 in NHL Betting.

The Bruins did not start things off the right way in game 1 of the series. The team was unable to get things going offensively, and they also just were unable to hold off the offensive attack of the Lightning on defense. The Tampa Bay Lightning managed to jump ahead for a 1-0 lead in the series by beating Boston by a score of 5-2.

Thomas, the goaltender for the Bruins, played a decent game, but he did allow 4 of the goals for the Lightning. He made 29 saves, but in the playoffs it is often necessary to step things up to the next level as a goaltender. Interestingly, each of the goaltenders in this series has somewhat of a weakness in that they aren’t particularly good at handling the puck. This means that the opposing team can put some pressure on the goaltender when he is trying to clear it out and they may be able to force the goaltenders to make mistakes.

The Bruins were one of the better all-around teams during the season. They had a top 5 offense and a top 5 defense. Their offensive and defensive game plans looked interrupted in their last game. They need to get on track for game two, as it will be difficult to come back from 2 games to none.

The Lightning simply need to come back with the same game plan. If they can disrupt Boston in game 2 the way they did in game 1, they should leave Boston up 2 games to none.
